Pete is an eleven-year-old middle school girl who desperately wants to know her biological father. But no one in her family wants to talk about him. When she comes face-to-face with the man, she is surprised to learn that she is from a mixed heritage, and learns the harsh realities of racism.

She also learns firsthand about bullying so destructive that Pete begins to wonder if her life has any value at all. Her friends seem to turn away from her and she seeks solace and peace at the top of the tower near her home. Will she find the answers she longs for as she sits high above the edge of her world?

The Tower edition by Lynn Yvonne Moon Children eBooks

I wanted to read The Tower by Lynn Yvonne Moon as my daughter has been bullied in High School and we had to end up withdrawing her and finish her last year at home.

Even though she was removed from the situation, I do think that, the bullying had an ongoing effect on her life, and in turn, mine.

This book shows how a child/teen is at a most vulnerable stage in life when they enter puberty and early adulthood, and how we have a responsibility to our kids to make sure they have an encouraging environment, instead of a destructive one.

Petunia, or Pete, as her preferred name, was only 11 when her torment began by a group of same aged children.

The school grounds should have been a safe place for her, and all kids, but instead became a personal torture chamber. If you have never dealt with a child in school who is a victim of bullying, you may think the way the school addressed the issue was less than accurate.

In my mind, it was right on the nose, too little, too late.

Many Jr high and High schools are run with the impression they are educating a group of young adults; however, the adult part is over rated. Instead of observing destructive behavior immediately as it unfolds and following up, they sweep it under the rug, leaving it to the children to figure out.
The victim often too afraid, for various reasons, as Pete was in The Tower, to bring forth the bullies for retribution attributed to this action.
What we see in this book is the bully is usually not a singular person, but a group, as most bullies are cowards and need a group to surround them to carry out their deeds and gain adoration for their heinous acts towards another. The followers of the instigator often do not even know the person they victimize. They give their actions a meaning from following the hatred of the leader. Often the leader themselves has no real knowledge of the person but creates a persona to target and pin some reason for some unresolved anger they are trying to cope with.

How this bully behavior starts in a youth is mind boggling and makes one wonder what values and manners where instilled at their home. Would the parents be more involved in resolving issues like these if they were criminally responsible for the actions of their children?

This book is a sad reflection on today’s culture of young people who are growing up without parental controls, religion, enough love and morals.

I think this should be on the preferred reading list starting in 5th grade and open discussions in classrooms across the country.

A well done engaging, sensitive book, bringing up a much-needed dialogue.

The Tower edition by Lynn Yvonne Moon Children eBooks Reviews

Page turner! Great book for pre-teens, teens, parents, teachers or anyone who cares about kids.
Wonderfully written book on a growing problem that is still often times overlooked or ignored. Must read for parents and educators! Page turner!
I could not put this book down from the first page to the last. As a mother, this book hit home in so many ways. Thank you for writing a book like this and opening my eyes to something I thought I already understood. The last line in the book had me bawling like a baby. I am looking forward to reading the next book!
We are proud to announce that THE TOWER by Lynn Yvonne Moon is a B.R.A.G.Medallion Honoree. This tells readers that this book is well worth their time and money!
This is a very important book for parents and children to read. It bravely covers the topic of bullying in a way that no other book has before. The story line is so engaging that you really can't put it down. This story follows a girl's life as she struggles with finding herself and dealing with a number of difficult situations including racism. Topics of cyber bullying, physical and verbal bullying are covered. You really start to understand what a child goes through and how bullying situations can quickly get out of control when nobody speaks up. Your child will be motivated to speak up and stand up to bullies. This book would be a great part of any anti- bullying program or school curriculum. Every parent should buy this book for their family!
It's very rare for me to pick up a book and not be able to put it down. This is one of those books. I chose it because of Rebecca. She was my neighbor's daughter's best friend.

This problem is all too real in our society today, and it's out of control. Parents need to be more involved in their children's lives, and listen to what they are saying, and to what they don't say. Adults need to be more aware of what's happening in our schools and playgrounds, and stand up for our younger generation.

Social media has made the bully's work much easier. Monitor your children's accounts. Don't let them be a part of the problem. Become part of the solution!
