The oldest child is a gifted boy with an extremely high IQ who questions the need for a Creator. His search for truth helps his father (the writer in the first person) rediscover his faith, the other "gift" the title refers to.
Why not atheism? The book explores the history of atheism in a way that will help the reader understand why it is a bad idea not only on a personal basis but also on a societal basis.

I have had the pleasure of not only reading this book, but listening to it as well--several times! That is because I am the one who narrated it! As the liner notes say, it is a "delightful story". I could tell that this was Mr. Keller's first book but I can easily forgive any first timer transgressions since he is so obviously passionate and knowledgable about his subject. David's Gifts truly is a gift to anyone who has every wrestled with the question of evolution versus intelligent design--as I have. I whole hardly recommend this book--especially if you listen to this audiobook version. I hope I have done a good job of interpreting the author's passion and insight.
I really enjoyed this book and it was wonderfully written!
Very well researched and written in a family story that appeals to all ages. Answers a lot of questions about evolution versus creation in an understandable format. I gave this book as a gift to a young woman undergoing drug rehab who has given me much feedback about how much she has learned from this book. I highly recommend it.
The author did an excellent job of taking two opposing views, evolution and creationism, and show how they actually do work together. He did a lot of research and turned the subject into an entertaining story.
Wonderful, thought provoking book. Anyone interested in Creationism or Evolution should read this book. If you believe in either theory, you owe it to yourself to read this book. It will challenge you to think about our beginnings in a whole new way.
